Radical
I was just told in front of the entire oval at OSU that I am going to Hell because I watch desperate housewives.
ME! I who live a radical life for God and Christ in the way He calls us to was told in front of everyone that I am going to Hell because I like a TV show...
How much more blasphemous can you get than denying my relationship with Christ and my salvation under grace?
Not much more...
It really kills me deep inside to see "Christians" behaving in such a way.

radicalists are funny, but if thats the only way they can have faith then i suppose thats wot they must do, i personaly believe live and let live (and be happy if annoying people die, thats just not nice to say though so i dont normally add it on to the end there)
@edumas - The biggest problem is that they make Christians look bad when they do things like this. The greatest thing about God is His love, not his condemnation. In fact, God is very forgiving and loves us for who we are. It is only through experiencing His love that we are able to change and truly become better people. When someone is preaching anything other than this, they are lying to not just themselves but to anyone who hears them. These people who preach in this way lead others astray, when Christ said we are to be a light unto the earth. It is sickening to think that someone can justify the way they lead others astray into darkness by the Word of God.
I wouldn't say you're going to hell for watching it... that's not my call to make. But I would offer up merely an age old truth. "Garbage in. Garbage out." Whatever you put into yourself the world is going to get when you put it out. What does this show add to the light you shine into the world? Does it do damage to your light? does it make you think about cheating, gossiping, lying or what have you?
Am I suggesting you need to lock yourself inside a bubble and watch only televangelists? No... heck, some of them are as bad as Desperate Housewives, if not worse! (sad but true... at least DH is FICTION!)
People got on Harry Potter because it depicted witchcraft. They failed to understand the story wasn't ABOUT witchcraft. It didn't GLORIFY witchcraft. The story itself was about one boy's struggle to come of age. It was about his struggle to find himself... his place in the world. About maturing enough to open up and let "friends" in. It was merely set in a wizarding world! In actuality, it was a great fantasy tool I used to help my son learn right from wrong. To learn empathy and understanding of the feelings of others.
I'm not suggesting you have a 5 year old watch DH... but the fact is that you make your own choices. And if you choose to only put garbage in, then the world will only get garbage out and you are deceived in your own salvation.... But if you're actually putting good out into the world, who cares what others think? If you take an hour out of your week to vent in front of Bree and the gang, who really cares?
Just as I can't give you salvation, nor guaranty it for you, this person you speak of can do neither. I would say to pray about it. If you feel convicted to stop watching, do so. But the first step is to analyze your own light. How brightly does your light shine into the world? And are you okay with that?
Yours in prayer, of course!
@EdwardHancockII - The thing is that sure, I watch garbage on TV once in awhile, but most of my time is pre-occupied with studying the bible and actively participating in fellowship and prayer. I am, after my dedication to God, determined to gain a BA in Theatre, which isn't just studying theatre, but also other general courses such as statistics, astronomy, political science, biology.
The mass amount of my time is dedicated to first, developing my relationship with and knowledge of God, and secondly, to developing my mind so that I can more easily analyze information that is thrown at me.
So, if I am spending 0.005 percent of my time watching garbage on TV, so what?
Stating without knowing me or my routine that watching Desperate Housewives is sending me to Hell is idiotic at the very least. It also gives the idea that my liking of Desperate Housewives is too great for God to handle or use to His or my advantage, which is basically like saying that God is powerless and useless, and we both know that that is not true. I certainly know that God is bigger than anything, than any problem I could possibly face and that He has promised many things, and one of those things is that He will never be the one to quit our relationship. It isn't like God is going to wake up one day and say, "oh, Kenda! You can't seriously like this Desperate Housewives bullshit! I am so leaving you for this!" It would take me saying, "Desperate Housewives is so much better than you, God! I am so into this that I don't have time for you anymore!" And that is SOOOO not happening.
@pianomusicchick - I wouldn't stress too much over it. I'm a writer. I'm a christian writer. But in my stories people burp, fart, cheat on their wives, cuss, pick their noses, kill, rape, lie, cheat and steal... why? because that's reality. I'm not writing a watered down version of reality. I'm writing to give a real picture of the choices people have to make in this world.... and I catch flack for it.... You're not going to please everybody, but who cares.... from what I know of you (which is to say this blog... LOL) you have only your Father to please and I don't hear Him complaining.... I would simply thank the person for his concern and go on about your business. That way you don't let satan make you angry, resentful or whatever and you stay focused on the important stuff... God's will.
@EdwardHancockII - as for your writing containing unwatered down reality: If God wanted us to live in watered down reality, something idealistic and unreal, he would have given us watered down reality, where people are all able to live up to ideals and everyone is happy, polite, and considerate, not to mention hygenic. The truth is, our personal savior died a bloody, gory, messy, disgusting death on a plank of wood to save us from all our bloody, gory, nasty, disgusting spiritual death. Our salvation wouldn't work in a watered down reality. It just wouldn't be real.
@pianomusicchick - You're one of the few people who understand that.... It's not often I meet someone with a view on this stuff so similar to my own.... most people think we all should live in that watered down reality.... I usually say "tell that to the murderers, rapists, idoliters, fornicators, etc...."
